In "My estimate of the UFO situation for 2009" e-mail earlier this year I suggested that some degree of technological sense has to be made of UFOs, even to make "seeing believing" let alone to make the UFO subject more acceptable. I have attempted to collect such data in my UFO quick technical overview: What we think we know about UFOs web-page. While searching for patterns in UFO illumination, I noticed one which I mention in a short note-to-self [todo: gravitational redshift/blueshift in RHS/LHS of lent. saucers?] in section #19 of that page.

I should start by saying that I try to respect witness testimony which I feel deserves respect, from seemingly sane and sincere witnesses. Yet I have often noticed reports of hovering discoid UFOs, where the eyewitness(es) reported green/blue light on the left-hand-side and red on the right-hand-side, being dismissed as being aircraft anti-collision lights and wondered how seemingly reliable people under good observation conditions could be so wrong mistaking approaching aircraft for a UFO.

Below I'm attaching some examples of UFO sketches which exhibit the aforementioned illumination pattern (green/blue lights on L/H/S and red on R/H/S) Note: I've collected several similar sketches from many countries USA, UK, Germany, Australia, France etc:

Keeping in mind the arrangement of visible light within the EM spectrum...

I've been exploring the idea of a possible gravitational redshift/blueshift of light, by a tangential gravitational field around the rim of saucers (to explain why the illumination on the left hand side of the saucer was green/blue, while on the right hand side was red). To quote from Wikipedia on redshift/blueshift:

"In physics, light or other forms of electromagnetic radiation of a certain wavelength originating from a source placed in a region of stronger gravitational field (and which could be said to have climbed "uphill" out of a gravity well) will be found to be of longer wavelength when received by an observer in a region of weaker gravitational field. If applied to optical wave-lengths this manifests itself as a change in the colour of the light as the wavelength is shifted toward the red (making it less energetic, longer in wavelength, and lower in frequency) part of the spectrum. This effect is called gravitational redshift and other spectral lines found in the light will also be shifted towards the longer wavelength, or "red," end of the spectrum. This shift can be observed along the entire electromagnetic spectrum. Light that has passed "downhill" into a region of stronger gravity shows a corresponding increase in energy, and is said to be gravitationally blueshifted."

Since the 1950s, several UFO researchers have speculated that UFOs might be using "gravity-like" force fields (note that repulsive gravity doesn't exist according to our current understanding of Physics). In my 2008 e-mail "Ideas on possible UFO propulsion physics" I suggested that the scientific research which seems promising is the so-called Gravitomagnetism (the subject of field effects caused by moving matter) and experiments with rotating superconductors such as the ones by Tajmar and Podkletnov.

Further exploring the idea of the source of a tangential gravitational field, which might produce a redshift/blueshift, I've noticed the so-called "Gravitoelectric field" (see sketch below) in the Mar-2006 experiment by Austrian physicist M.Tajmar et al funded by ESA (European Space Agency). It reported generation of a tangential gravitational fields in a rotating accelerated (time dependent angular velocity) superconducting Niobium ring.

I would like to end this e-mail with the request that you look into historical archives and current UFO reports in your country, to find examples or counter-examples of this particular UFO illumination pattern (green/blue lights on L/H/S and red on R/H/S of hovering discoid UFOs). Sofar I've found only one counter-example: in the 1976 documentary "UFOs It has begun" at 36' Maj Quintanilla skecthes the 1966 Frank Mannor Michigan USA "swamp gas" incident and has the pattern of illumination reversed:
